NYC honors WNBA champs Liberty with ticker-tape parade, ceremony

The Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx in overtime Sunday 67-62 in the deciding Game 5 of the WNBA Finals. WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones had 17 points as the Liberty secured its third win to clinch the title.
NEW YORK – New York City showered 2024 WNBA champs, the New York Liberty, with confetti for a ticker-tape parade celebrating this season’s victory.
Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart and the team waved to fans on a float that carried them down the Canyon of Heroes on Broadway in Lower Manhattan.

“This Championship is not only for us and New York City – it’s for all Liberty Loyals and our Brooklyn community! We are honored to celebrate at the iconic Canyon of Heroes, and also come together with our passionate fans at our home in Brooklyn,” said New York Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. “The community in the borough has embraced us wholeheartedly since we began playing at Barclays Center and we want to share this moment with them.”

After the parade, NYC Mayor Eric Adams awarded the Key to the City of New York to members of the New York Liberty.
“Every step of the way, the New York Liberty made our city proud, from making franchise history to securing the best record in the league, to inspiring all New Yorkers that our city is full of champions,” Adams said.
The festivities for the New York Liberty began with a ticker tape parade through the Canyon of Heroes and ended the day at Barclays Center. FOX 5 NY’s Jennifer Williams shows us how fans are celebrating this historic occasion.
